Day 15 – 9/25/07

Quick update and encouragement (for me…sorry)

  • Walked .2
  • Ran .8
  • Total time:10 minutes!!!

Will also be walking to work today – .7

Update: Walked home from work as well.  Total: 1.4!!!

Day 12-14 – 9/22/07 – 9/24/07

For starters, I have been taking the last few weekends off to rest up the ‘ole legs. Working 10-12 hrs. day are killing my sleep patterns and I can see/feel the pain by Friday PM.

Also, please pray for strength in my right knee. In my “younger” days I was a jock of all sorts and did not take care of my body (injuries) as I should of. Just to list a few that are catching up with me:

  • Broken right ankle – 4x’s. Never healed right after 4th break.
  • Beginning stages of bursitis in right shoulder. HS football injury playing Clinton, 1991.
  • Right knee began clicking last yr. I walk with a limp in the AM but loosens up during the day.
  • Lastly, my right hip was almost operated on in 2000 but the diagnosis for AV was premature. Sadly, it might still be a future reality.

But yet there is great comfort…1 Corinthians 15:50-54

Now, to the update:

  • Woke up @ 4:45am. Felt like crap!!! Slept til 5:15am.
  • Woke up again and dragged myself outside.
  • Started walking and knee was burning.
  • Turned corner and started to run. Almost got sprayed by skunk. Ran faster.
  • Walked .2, Ran .8 – Total time: 11 minutes.
  • Walked to work .7 – Total time: 13minutes.

What will I do in the winter?

Giving Him Praise…The Aerobic Way

Did he just say, “My praise is just so funky?”

Day 9, 10, 11 – 9/19/07 – 9/21/07

Just received a very encouraging e-mail from a friend in NJ. Let’s just say it made my day!!! Here are the last few days:

  • Day 9 – Distance: Walked .9 and ran .6.
  • Total time: 21 minutes.
  • Day 10 – Distance: Walked .2 and ran .8.
  • Total time: 11 minutes.
  • Day 11 – Distance: Walked .2 and ran .8.
  • Total time: 11 minutes.

All in all, things are progressing nice. Tightening in strategic areas allow me to run without much pain. I do ask that you pray for strength and consistency in diet. I had my first turkey burger a few days ago. Puke.

Also, I’ll increase walk/run time on Monday. Trying to set a goal of 1 mile walking, 1 mile running in under 30 minutes.

Peace out.

Day 8 – 9/18/07

Another cold morning (40 degrees). Air quality was tough. Had to scale back this AM due to work from the day before. See, I was running this machine with no carburetor and so I INHALED exhaust all day. I could barely breathe last night and when I woke up this AM not only was I exhausted (pun intended) but it felt like I had smoked 6 Cuban Cigars and inhaled all of the them.

Anyway, here’s what went down…

  • Woke up @ 4:30AM but didn’t get out of bed until 5:15AM.
  • Walked .5 and then ran .5.
  • Total time: 13.3 minute.

Tomorrow is an early day as I meet with my Yankee-loving-Pastor friend. I wonder if he’ll show up??? =)

Day 7 – 9/17/07

#!@&%$*!!! Well, that’s how it feels this AM. COLD!!! Temp. hovering around 40. Anyway, tried to extend myself some more this morning. Here’s what it looked like:

  • Walked .6 and then ran .2.
  • Walked another .2 and than ran .3.
  • Total distance and time: 1.3, 23 minutes.

Side note: DIET, DIET, DIET!!! I have to keep convincing myself that muscle weighs more than fat and since I have huge guns…sorry, I digress…pray for control of appetite this week and beyond. The weekend was relaxing but the food very inviting. =)

Day 3,4 – 9/13/07 – 9/14/07

Legs hurt…real bad!!! But let’s stop complaining and move forward. Quick update:

  • Walked .5 and ran .5 on Day 3. Came in again around 14 minutes.
  • Also walked to work on Day 3. Distance: .7. Time: 12 minutes.
  • Day 4 – Walked .5 and ran .5.

Well, i’m encouraged. Dropped a few pounds this week but most of all noticing some tightening (good) around my chest and mid-section. Legs are sore throughout the day but with my line of work I only notice it when I’m driving from stop to stop.

Today is Saturday (Day 5) and so I’m going to take a day off and resume again on Sunday AM (Day 6).* Also, I think I’ll up the walking next week by 5 minutes and try to extend my running to increase my heart rate.

*Update: Slept in on Sunday AM (6:00AM). Stayed up the night before watching some stupid Pocahontas movie with Colin Farrell. Waste of time. =(

Stay tuned…

Day 2 – 9/12/07

Ouch!!! Legs are a little sore today but nothing big. I had to wake up early to meet with a Pastor friend so it was out the door @ 4:30am so I could meet him @ 5:45am; which by the way he didn’t show up. Yankee fans???!!!

Anyway:

  • Walked .5 and ran .5.
  • Total time: 14 minutes.

Hmmm…1 minute off from yesterday??? I will have to keep an eye on this. May be something exciting.

Peace out.

Journey to Wholeness

DAY 1 – 9/11/07

Yikes!!! This is weird…throwing all my thoughts and struggles with weight loss out for the whole world to see. I guess it really doesn’t matter because this is really about wholeness and health and legacy for my kids and wife.

Here’s what’s going to happen

  • I will lose 60 lbs in the next 6-8 months. I’m 5′6 and weigh 230lbs. I have a keg for a gut but I can sometimes feel my washboard stomach if I push real hard.
  • Mostly it’s my midsection that needs the most attention. The legs are fine and my wife says my butt looks good. I’m not sure since I can’t see it but I’ll take her word for it.
  • Upper body needs some attention but mostly my midsection.
  • I’m an XL in shirt and a size 38-40 in pants. The goal is to return to a M-L shirt (I’ve got big shoulders/chest) and a size 32-34 pant.
  • Sadly, I fall into the Obese II category which has a scale between 35.0-39.9. This sucks to write but I’m a 37 on the stupid scale.
  • According to the experts (cough), I should be at 155-160lbs. I’m going to get there no matter what.

Anyway, I started to walk/run this AM. Here is what it looked like:

  • Woke up @ 5:00am (I’m a morning person by nature). Tried to convince myself that because of the rain it wasn’t a good idea to start today. I then convinced myself to get my arse downstairs and just do it. I did it.
  • Walked .7 miles very briskly and then rumbled along for .3 for a total of 15 minutes.
  • Once I started my day at work I realized that I should have done more. My body is not sore which was encouraging.
  • 9/12/07 – Going for 2 miles. Will walk 1.5 and run .5.
